15 Under Div 1

REFNC 30 defeated by Mildura 33

Awards: Ellen Heeps and London Gallace.

With another warm day for netball, the girls took to the court eager to continue their winning form. The team began well, working together to move the ball down the court, capitalising on the opportunities created by the defenders, with the goalers working hard to convert those turnovers into goals.

A close first quarter ended with the Eagles down by two. The next two quarters saw a tight contest between the Eagles and the Demons, with both sides evenly matched and scoring goal for goal. At three-quarter time, Mildura were leading by three.

The Eagles gave their all in the final quarter, fighting hard and managing to close the gap, drawing level with the Demons. With the crowd on the edge of their seats, the Eagles pushed to gain the lead but were ultimately unable to contain the Demons, who took out the win by three goals.

13 Under Div 1

REFNC 25 defeated by Mildura 30

Awards: Maya Brigante and Fiona Phakhanam.

The game began with both teams going goal for goal, with Yamila Albanese, Fiona Phakhanam, and Maya Brigante starting strongly in their first game back. Stepping into GS, Maya shot confidently and made strong leads, combining well with Grace Smith’s energy in the ring.

In the second quarter, Mildura capitalised on several intercepts, converting turnovers with fluent passages of play and accurate shooting. They extended their lead to thirteen before the Eagles managed to settle, going into halftime trailing by nine.

Rolling changes in attack saw Imogen Shawcross shooting accurately at GS, before Maya shifted to GA and Grace returned to GS, continuing her sharp shooting. Fiona moved from WA into WD, where her pressure and ball movement helped spark a second-half rally from the Eagles.

Mildura’s tall shooters proved a challenge for the Eagles’ defenders, making rebounds difficult. However, Vienna Buchanan and Liberty Panagiotopoulos worked tirelessly in defence, supported by Charlize Costantino and later Fiona in WD.

In the midcourt, Yamila, Arianna Lamattina, and Ava Best rotated through C and WA, helping to lift the team’s intensity after halftime and deliver the ball to the hard-working shooters.

A stronger second half saw the girls reduce the margin to just five goals by the final whistle. Mildura were a tough opponent, but the Eagles fought back well to win the second half. With three players set to return next week, the team will be at full strength and continuing to improve.

 13 Under Div 2

REFNC 13 defeated Mildura 12

Awards: Meadow Zappia and Shiloh Giofrelle.

With several players away over the Easter weekend, the Robinvale Euston side once again relied on multiple players stepping up to play two games. Charlize Constantino and Fiona Phakenham were instrumental in defence, consistently creating turnovers alongside Addison Healy from the 11U team. Addison played three quarters in wing defence, providing reliable support to the goal defence and goalkeeper with accurate passes.

Although Mildura maintained a lead for three quarters, Robinvale Euston remained composed and unfazed by the narrowing scoreline. Mia Bulzomi capitalised on Mildura’s missed shots, securing rebounds and transitioning the ball effectively down the court to Meadow Zappia and Shiloh Giofrelle. The duo displayed impressive determination and attacking skill in the wing attack and centre positions, feeding the ball confidently into the goal ring. There, Imogen Shawcross and Delilha Maclean worked hard to convert opportunities and keep the scoreboard ticking.

Ariana Lamattina, having also played earlier with the Division 1 team, made a strong impact in both centre and goal attack. Her speed and accurate passes allowed her to regularly break through Mildura’s defence. The Eagles demonstrated strong teamwork and consistent play across the court, allowing them to stage a steady comeback and secure an exciting one-goal win.

Awards: Isabella Garreffa and Elise Healy.

It was another warm Saturday as the team ventured to Mildura for the Easter Saturday clash.

The girls had put in plenty of effort at training during the week, working on their key focus areas: footwork, passing, and leading in front of their opponents. Coach Jane gave a timely reminder of these points before the game to ensure they were front of mind.

The team came out sharp, leading strongly off the line at centre passes and quickly transitioning into the next phase down the court. Their defensive pressure was also on display, with excellent hands-over-ball efforts and impressive discipline to stay three feet from the contest. The girls showed great determination, pulling in some strong two-handed rebounds off Mildura’s missed goal attempts.

Although there were moments of fumbles, the team consistently showed grit, chasing down loose balls and refusing to give up on any contest.

Excitement is building ahead of their first home game this weekend, which is sure to attract a bumper crowd.

A reminder from Coach Jane — Remember to shoot your 20 goals this week girls!

In the second clash for the season, the 11U Div 2 team faced Mildura at their home ground. 9 Under

Awards: Sophie McTighe and Elizabeth Filimone.

The 9s played well in another warm match on Saturday against Mildura.

Mackenzie Hocking led the team as captain and started in centre. She stayed involved and moved the ball well throughout the game.

The Eagles defenders were solid all day, using their height and timing to get lots of intercepts and slow down Mildura’s attack. They worked well together and stayed strong under pressure.

In the shooting circle, the goalers worked as a team to create space for attempts at goals. The centre court ran hard all game, linking up with both ends and helping move the ball down with good teamwork.

The girls are excited for next week – their first home game of the season against South Mildura.
